Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"This place clearly specializes in classic Cantonese comfort food, especially congee and rice rolls—and that’s where it really shines. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everything came out surprisingly fast, which was a big plus. The congee was smooth, hot, and comforting, with a great rice-to-water balance—not too thick, not too watery. You can tell it’s something they do well and often. It was flavorful on its own and even better with the traditional toppings. The rice rolls (cheung fun) were the highlight of the meal. Soft, silky, and fresh, with just the right amount of sauce. These were easily my favorite dishes and definitely what I would come back for. The fried items and noodles were decent—good, but not the main attraction. They didn’t stand out as much compared to the congee and rice rolls, which clearly seem to be the house specialties. Overall, this is a solid spot if you’re craving comforting, traditional Chinese breakfast or brunch-style dishes. The food comes out quickly, portions are satisfying, and if you stick to their specialties—especially the congee and rice rolls—you won’t be disappointed."
"Went to Philadelphia Chinatown tonight — parking was actually very easy since we avoided peak hours. It was my first time trying the rice noodle rolls at this place, and they were really good! Maybe because the weather was a bit cold, the seafood congee felt extra warm and comforting. We ordered BBQ pork rice noodle rolls with vegetables and a three-combo rice noodle roll — everything tasted amazing."
"one of the places in chinatown I recommend this place to friends and coworkers. it is a chain from china which has maintained its authenticity and flavor! food: you can’t go wrong with any of the rice rolls on the menu. crowd favorites are usually: ⭐ shrimp and chive ⭐ shrimp and pork ⭐ shrimp and beef ⭐ fried dough sticks ⭐ congee - their noodle soup dishes are ok too service: an introvert’s dream! the staff greeted us upon entering. the self-service model is reminiscent of china in the best way —no need to hassle and wait for a server to come by and take your order, place it, get your drinks and eventually come back with the food. instead, as soon as we sat down they brought us cups of hot tea and we ordered from the QR code menu and 10-minutes later it appeared on our table! atmosphere: it was lively and busy on a saturday morning ~11am. all the downstairs seats and the upstairs area was open. there was moderate noise like the comforting buzz of morning chatters."
"Really good Chinese authentic food! Would definitely recommend coming here if you want something fulfilling to start your day. We waited a couple of minutes to seated, but it is worth the wait. The place is also very nicely decorated."
"I really enjoyed this spot. I stopped in to try the rice rolls as a bite while walking through Chinatown, and could not have found a better place. The man at the counter sat me at a table and walked me through the menu. It was tough to decide, but I went with the safety of barbecued pork and beef rolls. The meat and rolls themselves were amazingly tender, covered in a sweet soy that gave a perfect balance to the meat in the rolls. He recommended a peanut sauce one, along with a seaweed and pork floss roll, both of which I picked up the next day and were phenomenal. This will definitely be a stop next time I'm in Philly, as there are so many more items to try (including the congee)."
"The Lai Wan congee was soothing on the soul for a cold winter night. Couldn't recommend enough the peanut seaweed pork floss rice roll as well. Place is a gem of Chinatown."
"Delicious Congee and Rice Rolls! I ordered the seafood Congee and it was full of so much delicious Mussels, fish, shrimp. Awesome flavor, so fresh and warming on a cool day. The shrimp and chive rice rolls were incredible as well. Kind and very fast service."
"Excellent meal! Reasonably priced and delicious. Rice roll is soft and fresh. We got the shrimp and beef. We also had fried wontons that both crunched and melted in the mouth. Soup was filling and tasty. Fried dough was fresh tasting as well. Recommend this restaurant."
